I've always wanted to write. And I don’t mean in a "oh, wouldn’t that be a nice hobby?" kind of way. No, I mean in a "this is a deep, unshakable, borderline obsessive need to create stories and throw my characters into wild situations just to see what happens" kind of way. Writing has been simmering inside me forever, and when I finally decided to sit down and do the damn thing, it wasn’t a question of if—I was finally making it happen.
So why did I start with Violet and Alex’s story in "Pretending to Be His"? Because Violet was, and still is, me. Every weird quirk, every snarky comeback, every moment of chaotic energy that somehow makes sense in her world—I poured myself into her. Writing her felt like unleashing every hilarious, messy, and stubborn piece of me onto the page and letting her run wild. And let me tell you, that girl ran. She took off like she had just heard the ice cream truck roll down the street, and I had no choice but to keep up.
Violet wasn’t just a one-and-done kind of character. Oh no, she had other plans. She started worming her way into Book 2, sticking her nose where it didn’t belong, demanding more page time like a diva refusing to exit the stage. And honestly? I wasn’t mad about it. She made everything more fun, and the idea of having her pop up in unexpected places—like a nosy best friend who keeps showing up with wine and unsolicited advice—became something I couldn’t resist.
And that’s exactly what I plan to do. Violet isn’t going anywhere. She’ll keep sneaking into stories, adding her two cents whether anyone asks for them or not, and making herself at home in worlds that technically aren’t hers but absolutely should be. Because that’s what she does. She finds a way in, makes herself comfortable, and refuses to leave.
Writing has always been a dream of mine, but starting with Violet and Alex’s story? That was a necessity. It was my way of stepping into the world of writing with a character who felt like home, like someone I knew inside and out. And now that she’s here? Good luck getting rid of her.
So buckle up, because Violet is sticking around, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
